Draw directly in Anime Studio with a suite of powerful drawing tools or import your favorite digital images or artwork to get started.
- Use a mouse or recreate the sensation of drawing on paper using a Pen Tablet. Anime Studio's vector-based drawing tools allow you to manipulate your art to get the exact look and feel you desire.
- Choose from a variety of customizable brush styles and pattern brushes when creating your own art. The Vector Shape Selector tool makes editing existing content a snap.
- Anime Studio lets you import your existing drawings and photos and automatically converts them to ready-to-animate vector drawings. In Debut you can trace as black/white and then fill your creations with color. In Anime Studio Pro, you can also trace as color, or edges only.
- Anime Studio also allows you to import your existing 2D images to get started. With Anime Studio Pro’s built-in Photoshop import feature, you can easily load Photoshop files with all layers intact. Anime Studio Pro also provides 3D import capabilities, allowing you to import 3D OBJ files from Poser, Shade and other 3D applications to use in your animations. Create your own 3D shapes in Anime Studio Pro or load your Poser scenes to blend 2D and 3D animations*.
- Create ready-to-animate characters quickly using the built-in Character Wizard.
- In Anime Studio Pro, image, movie and audio files that are part of your imported Anime Studio project file are automatically updated when edited in an external program.
- Import your own video clips in MOV and AVI format. Import sounds in WAV, AIFF, or M4A format or record your own sound clips in the program and create your own fandubs and fansubs quickly and easily!

- Set up your 2D canvas to the exact dimensions you want. With Anime Studio Pro, you can even turn your canvas into a 3D stage with X, Y and Z coordinates. Easily produce your animation with added depth and dimension.
- Using Anime Studio's vector-based graphics, you can freely adjust canvas resolution and size without losing image quality.
- Anime Studio 8 incorporates a familiar layer-based workflow, making it easy and efficient to organize your assets and create your animation. Save time by reusing your art--simply create an asset once and place it on a layer, then refer to that layer any time you need to reuse that piece of art.
- Advanced layer features include Switch Layers. Anime Studio will rotate among all the layers in a set, showing only one layer at a time, saving you a great deal of time when animating body movements or facial expressions.
- Rig characters, objects and scenes with a revolutionary bone system that makes the animation process easier than ever before. Bones create a skeleton that determines joints or flex points in your artwork. Manipulate the bones in your image into new positions without having to redraw!
- Organize your project in Anime Studio using keyframe animation and a timeline. All you need to do is position your image on the canvas and manipulate the project timeline. The program will interpolate the motion between positions for you!
